DESCRIPTION:In Honor of Public Health Week: 2026\n\nWhat is Public Health?\
nPublic health is all about keeping communities healthy and safe. And\, of
ten\, it is in ways people may not even notice. Instead of focusing on one
person at a time\, public health looks at the big picture. Specifically\,
how can we care for entire communities?\n\nWe ask questions like\, how do
we:\n• Prevent illness and injury?\n• Protect our communities?\n• Make su
re everyone has a fair chance to live well?\n\nWe Prevent Disease\n• We tr
ack and aim to stop the spread of illnesses like measles\, flu\, RSV\, and
valley fever.\n• We monitor outbreaks of various viral and bacterial infe
ctions in the county.\n\nWe Protect Families\n• We promote healthy lifesty
le habits like using seatbelts\, helmets\, and child car seats to prevent
injuries.\n• We provide in-home visits and maternity classes through our H
ealthy Families San Joaquin program.\n• We manage the county branch of Cal
 ifornia Children’s Services\, a statewide program that arranges\, directs\
, and pays for medical care\, equipment\, and rehabilitation for children
and young adults under 21 years of age\, who have CCS eligible medical con
ditions.\n• We lead vaccination events to keep children and families healt
hy and disease-free.\n\nWe Plan for Emergencies\n• We prepare for disaster
 s like earthquakes\, floods\, extreme heat\, and wildfires\, so communitie
s can respond quickly and stay safe.\n\nWe Support Healthy Living\n• We ru
n programs like Safe Kids to promote car seat usage and safety\, and facil
itate the Opioid Safety Coalition.\n• We manage the Childhood Lead Poisoni
ng Prevention Program\, providing education services for families\, commun
ity groups and health care providers.\n• We manage communicable disease pr
ograms\, providing surveillance &amp\; case investigation of all reportabl
e communicable diseases in the county.\n• We provide nutrition support thr
ough the WIC (Women\, Infants\, and Children) program.\n\nWe Use Data to I
mprove Health\n• We collect health information\, use technology and share
data. Oftentimes we use dashboards to display this info\, which can be fou
nd on our website https://www.sjcphs.org. Our goal is to reduce poor healt
h outcomes\, especially for vulnerable populations.\n\nWe Manage Vital Rec
ords\n• We process important documents like birth\, marriage\, and death c
ertificates.\n\nLearn about all our programs on our website: www.sjcphs.or
